The Central Hall have had a Chaplin film this week, “A Dog’s Life”. Charlie produced the picture himself and it shows him at his best in his inimitable drollery. The incident where he tucks the puppy under his clothes, leaving only its tail protruding, is too funny for words.
[From the Watford Observer of August 24, 1918]
NOSTALGIA NOTE: A Dog's Life was written, produced and directed by Charlie Chaplin, his first film for his own production company and distributed by First National Films. By this time, Chaplin was said to be the most famous person on the planet.
