A puppy was abandoned in the back of van in a Watford scrapyard with a note pleading for someone to take her in.

Valerie, a German Shepherd cross puppy, was found locked in a windowless van with a note attached to her collar, which read "my name is Valerie and I’m six months old, take me too".

Valerie was rescued and taken to Dogs Trust, in Harvil Road, Harefield, where she is looking for a loving home.

Sian Fairle, Dogs Trust Harefield supporter relations officer, said: "Valerie has had a pretty rough start to her short life but this hasn’t knocked her happy-go-lucky nature.

"She is a typical puppy who loves everyone and everything. She would suit a lively family who can offer her an active home with lots of exercise to try and use up some of her seemingly endless energy.

"Her favourite thing is definitely excitable cuddles and she absolutely loves meeting new dogs and people.

"Her bouncy nature means she would be better suited to a family with children over six years old but one thing is for sure, she’ll be a burst of energy for any lucky home."

When Valerie was brought into the Dogs Trust, her rescuers said they found her in a scrapyard in the Watford area, although they could not recall which one it was.

Valerie is now looking for a loving home.
