Members of West Watford Golfing Society presented Peace Hospice Care with a cheque for £10,000, as part of a special relationship that has spanned 20 years.

The society was founded in 1940 and their charitable works began almost immediately, as members’ wives knitted clothing for troops fighting in the Second World War.

The society’s annual charity golf day began in 1989, initially to provide food parcels and toys to less fortunate Watford residents.

Over the years, the event developed and mainly provides support to Watford-based charities, including Watford General Hospital’s Neonatal Unit, New Hope and Peace Hospice Care.

Ropinder Gill, Peace Hospice Care’s director of fundraising, said: "Over twenty years of fantastic support, the West Watford Golfing Society has raised around £80,000 for Peace Hospice Care.  That is a phenomenal amount of money and really has made such a difference to our ability to deliver vital services in South West Hertfordshire."

The society has also pledged to continue their support in future, going so far as to include a clause in their constitution guaranteeing a minimum donation to Peace Hospice Care on an annual basis.
