Garston couple David and Patricia Hobbs will celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary tomorrow.

The lifetime Watford FC fans, who live in The Gossamers, were married at All Saints church in Horseshoe Lane, Leavesden, on August 28, 1954.

The couple, who have both lived in the Garston area all their lives, met after being set up on a blind date by their friends.

Patricia, 80, worked as a silver service waitress in The Durrants club in Croxley Green and later in bakeries in Leavesden Road and Garston Parade.

David, 84, worked at Smiths, and then as an engineer at Rolls Royce Leavesden making helicopter engines.

They have three children, Karen, Wayne and Donna, and five grandchildren, Sophie, 19, Spencer, 16, Josh, 9, Kieran, 5, and one-year-old Ellis.

The pair are dedicated Watford FC fans. David is still a season ticket holder, while Pat prefers to listen to the matches on the radio these days.

Daughter Donna said the couple’s secret to their happy 60-year marriage is that they get on with each other, look after each other and that her dad does what he’s told.

David and Pat enjoy going out to dinners together, as well as travelling. The couple like to holiday in Cornwell and Cumbria and have visited Australia a few times to see family members who live there.

To celebrate their landmark anniversary, the family had a party at Blackwells Cafe and Bar in Chipperfield.
