The Moor Park 10k attracts hundreds of fundraisers each year, but one runner will be pushing himself for charity for the tenth time next month.

The popular event is in aid of the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre (LJMC), which is based at Mount Vernon Hospital, in Rickmansworth Road, Northwood.

Councillor Chris Lloyd, chairman of Three Rivers District Council, will be taking part in the Moor Park 10k for the tenth time on September 28.

The Durrants councillor said: "My father and many friends and relatives had been treated for cancer so it was a cause close to my heart.

"Also, the event was based at Merchant Taylors’ School where my father had taught for most of his career so there was an extra personal connection."

Councillor Lloyd has been running for a number of years, taking part in fun runs and supporting a friend in training for a marathon.

He runs regularly with friends, many of whom join him at the annual Moor Park event.

He said that, although he has not been able to get in as much training as he would like, he has set himself a target of completing the run in less than an hour.

Councillor Lloyd chose the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre as one of his special charities during his first term as chairman of Three Rivers District Council, raising more than £6,000.

He has continued his support for the charity during his second term as chairman and his participation in the Moor Park 10k is one of many fundraising activities he will be taking in during the year.

Councillor Lloyd said: "The LJMC is a special place. It’s a peaceful environment where cancer patients can go to seek information about their treatment, talk to someone and receive much needed support. The standard of care and the services provided at the LJMC are second to none."

He added: "I’m really looking forward to this year’s Moor Park 10k. It’s always a great event and I’m really proud that this is the tenth year I will have taken part. The event has a lovely family friendly community atmosphere and embraces the values I share as a local councillor."

The Moor Park 10k and Junior Fun Runs include events for all ages and speeds. They will take place at Merchant Taylors’ School on Sunday 28 September.
