Residents near a Rickmansworth golf club are opposing plans to extend its alcohol and music licence as the level of noise coming from the premises can be "unbearable" at times.

Batchworth Park Golf Club’s current licence permits regulated entertainment, late night refreshment and the supply of alcohol indoors until 11pm Sunday to Thursday and until midnight on Friday and Saturday.

The London Road club has applied to extend their live and recorded music times and their alcohol supply times by an hour.

But the plans have been met with opposition by residents who have submitted their objections to Three Rivers District Council’s licensing committee, which met yesterday today.

Some of the complaints lodged by residents in documents given to the council’s committee include: "Music played loudly at night can be heard in my house even with the double glazed windows closed."

Other comments read: "At times the nuisance caused by the volume of music and the level of noise created by the people attending can be unbearable and very uncomfortable to be living near. This is a very quiet residential area and consequently this makes the nuisances more evident."

There are four areas that the local authority has to consider when looking at a licensing application.

These include the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, the prevention of public nuisance and the protection of children from harm.

In a comment submitted to the council, one person said: "All of our children’s bedrooms are at the back of the house and the noise disturbs their sleep."

Another comment read: "On Saturday, August 2 loud music was being played in the clubhouse at approximately 1am which could be heard in my house.

"This was clearly outside the scope of their premises licence, so if it happens now what is to prevent it happening later into the night if the new licence is granted?"

The applicant for the extended opening hours is Benelong Golf.

Members of the district council’s licensing committee have five working days to consider the application to extend the golf club’s hours.
