Thousands gathered on The Green for the annual Croxfest at the weekend.

The community music festival attracted a host of ages to Croxley Green on Saturday.

The popular event ran from noon until 8pm and organisers said the “tremendous” support from residents has led to one of the most successful Croxfests since the summer fixture was established in 2011.

Watford Observer:

Stephen Crabtree, one of the organisers, said: “All our hard work for the last ten months has paid off like we hoped it would.

“People had a great time. There were happy, smiley faces all round, from toddlers to people in their seventies.

“There are so many people to thank. Croxfest loves all of you and people’s support right across the board has been tremendous.

“There are just so many people who gave up their time for free and this was about giving something back to the community.”

Watford Observer:

A total of £2,400 was raised from donation buckets collecting at the event, which was free for people to attend.

The money will be split between local charities, including Peace Hospice Care.

Mr Crabtree said: “People are incredibly generous so that local charities in the area of Croxley are going to benefit, which is terrific.”

It is estimated that about 8,000 people attended the event.

Mr Crabtree said there has already been a lot of interest from bands and businesses to get involved in next year’s event.

He added: “When we were clearing up on the ground we had our first request from a band to play next year and in the run up to the festival I was contacted from four or five caterers to get involved next year.

Watford Observer:

“Most of the organisers get a couple of months off and then we get back to planning next year’s.

“It’s what volunteering is all about. There are so many communities that don’t have anything and it’s tremendous what goes on for people of all ages here.

“I think we are very lucky in Croxley Green that we have so many community events.

“What has always been a must for us is to put on a safe family community festival for people to come and enjoy and we’re not going to change that. As for next year, if it’s not broken why try and fix it?

“The family community support remains at the core of what we do and that is the central part of it.”
