Watford Borough Council is supporting the national Heritage Open Days 2014 by holding free events at a number of civic buildings in the town.

Heritage Open Days, which runs until Sunday, September 14, aims to celebrate architecture and culture by offering free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission.

Free events and activities will take place in Watford on the four days at Little Cassiobury, Watford Museum, Watford Central Library, Watford Labour Church (Scouts Hut), St Michael's Church, BRE, Sugden House and Town Hall.

Also open will be St Mary's Church, Hertfordshire Fire Museum, Holy Rood Church, Henry Smith House, Beechen Grove Baptist Church, Peace Hospice, Cassiobury Park and The Old Free School.

Sarah Priestley, museum and heritage manager at Watford Borough Council, said: "In other years, Watford's Heritage Open Day events have proved very popular.

"We've had lots of positive feedback from participants asking for more this year, and we were happy to oblige."

One of the activities planned in Watford as part of the celebrations, is special explorations of St. Mary's Church tombs, with guide John Way.

They will take place hourly on Saturday, September 13, between 10.30am and 4.30pm, starting at the west door of the church.
