Hundreds flocked to Meriden Park on Saturday for a funday to celebrate the local community.

The event was organised by Watford Community Housing Trust as part of "I Love the Meriden" - a project to improve the area in partnership with local people.

As well as enjoying fairground rides and other family activities, visitors to the event had a chance to share their ideas about how the Meriden can become an even better place in which to live.

The event also marked "Social Saturday", a national initiative to encourage people to buy from social enterprises.

The Meriden’s own Green Canteen was selling fruit and veg grown by volunteers, and there were demonstrations from Watford Cycle Hub and Watford Workshop.

Volunteers from the Nine Lives furniture recycling project were also in attendance, as was "Ann of Cakes", a graduate of the Trust’s Pop-Up Business School.

Euan Barr, head of new business at Watford Community Housing Trust, said: "It’s been fantastic to see so many people here, not only enjoying the activities but also giving us their ideas about priorities for improving the Meriden.

"And it’s been great to see people supporting our local social enterprises which make such a positive contribution to the community."
