The BBC’s 1980 Mastermind champion, Croxley Green taxi driver Fred Housego, and the runner-up, Watford civil servant, Sam Mortimer, will help run a Mastermind competition in aid of Watford General Hospital’s appeal to raise £40,000 by Christmas for laser equipment.
The appeal fund, opened on August 21, now stands at £16,500. Hospital administrator Colin Starling said this week £30,000 was needed before an order for the laser photocoagulator could be placed.
The Mastermind experts will act as chairmen. Finding candidates for the event has proved more difficult.
The event will prove costly for those who would like to watch. It will be open to anyone, but with only 110 seats available, £10 a ticket is envisaged.
