Hundreds of past and present pupils gathered at a South Oxhey school at the weekend to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
Woodhall Primary School, in Woodhall Lane, opened its doors to those generations who were taught at one of the oldest education establishments on the estate.
Speaking on what makes the school as special today as it was in 1954, deputy headteacher, Michelle Lake, said it was its community spirit.
She said: “We saw this inspector’s report from 1954 which said the school had clearly established itself as a community and is making a full contribution to the life of the children and of the neighbourhood.
“It’s still like that now. It’s the community spirit we have and we work really closely with all of our families. We have an open door policy and nurturing ethos.”
The celebratory event, which was held on Saturday, ran from 11am to 4pm.
There was a host of activities on offer, including singing and dancing performances, games, stalls and the traditional raffle.
Miss Lake said she could not be sure exactly how many people attended the event, but she is certain that it was in the hundreds.
