Two training projects set up in collaboration with Watford Community Housing Trust have been shortlisted for national awards.

Jobs at Home, a social enterprise started by the trust in partnership with Thrive Homes and the Housing Leadership Foundation, has been shortlisted in the "Best Training Scheme" category in the 24Housing Awards.

Jobs at Home creates jobs for local people who were previously unemployed and trains them to repair and maintain homes in their communities. The awards take place on November 6.

There was also recognition for another social enterprise - the Community Maintenance Team - which the trust created with Construction Gateway, a national training organisation.

This gives residents an opportunity to complete a construction apprenticeship while completing improvement works in the trust’s properties.

The Community Maintenance Team has been shortlisted in the "One to Watch" category in the Social Enterprise UK Awards, taking place on November 26.

Trust chief executive Tina Barnard said: "These two schemes are good for the trust and good for our residents too.

"They provide much-needed skills and job opportunities while also delivering first-class repairs and maintenance services, carried out by local people.

" Both projects are worthy winners in my view, and I look forward to seeing if we are successful in November."
