Senior officials at Watford FC are "extremely proud" of the atmosphere at Vicarage Road after the latest government data showed that Watford fans were the seventh best-behaved fans in the Championship.

In total, 14 Watford FC supporters were arrested during the 2013/2014 season and one banning order was imposed, which is joint-second best along with AFC Bournemouth and Reading. No banning orders were imposed at Norwich City.

Officers arrested five people at home matches at Vicarage Road last season while nine were arrested following the team across the country during a campaign which saw The Hornets finish 13th.

Glyn Evans, operations director at Watford FC, said: "We’re extremely proud to have a safe, welcoming and family friendly environment for watching football at Vicarage Road and long may this continue.

"With increasing numbers of supporters attending away matches, we wish to ensure the club’s reputation is continued to be held in high regard up and down the country."

The data, from the "football-related arrests and football banning order statistics", compiled by the Home Office, shows that four Watford FC fans were arrested for violent disorder, three for public disorder, two for pitch incursion and five for alcohol offences.

Brighton and Hove Albion supporters were rated as the best-behaved fans in England’s second division, with five people being arrested during the season.

But Leeds United supporters topped the list of number of arrests with 91 detained, 49 of which were on the Yorkshire team’s travels.

In total, 561 fans were arrested at a Championship game last year, which is down from 621 the previous season.
