The county council has given notice to implement further waiting restrictions and bring in designated parking bays in a busy Watford Business Park.

But retailers based in Watford Business Park say introducing more restrictions will be a "disaster" for their businesses.

Hertfordshire County Council has proposed "no waiting at any time" in parts of Greenhill Crescent and Caxton Way.

In addition, it is seeking to bring in "unrestricted parking bays" in parts of the same roads.

Double yellow lines and a one-way system was implemented on the roads earlier this year, which businesses owners have already said has had a detrimental effect.

Tony Iannatta, of Tony and Maria Cafe in Watford Business Park, said more restrictions will make the situation even worse.

Mr Iannatta said: "The yellow lines have been a killer. People cannot come and stop near us. Lorries cannot unload. It’s been a big issue for us.

"More restrictions are a big mistake. Everyone has complained about the ones already in place, the customers - it’s a disaster.

"It has big time affected business, and not only mine.

"With more restrictions is will be even worse."

The county council has said the changes are designed to "improve road safety".

The notice said: "Notice is given that the Hertfordshire County Council in order to improve road safety propose to make an order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to introduce waiting restrictions...and also an order to designate parking bays on parts of Greenhill Crescent and Caxton Way, Watford."

Andrew Dawson, spokesman for Hertfordshire County Council, said: "Following on from traffic flow improvements made at Watford Business Park earlier this year, we are proposing further changes to address parking issues - based on feedback we have received from local businesses.

"We are proposing double yellow lines for short lengths on Caxton Way and Greenhill Crescent to ensure safety in and around junctions by allowing clear sightlines and adequate space for vehicles.

"However, we are also proposing to remove localised waiting restrictions at Greenhill Crescent and introduce free designated parking bays to provide a net increase in parking facilities.

"The aim is to improve traffic flow and safety across the business park."

The deadline to object to the proposals must be made in writing, stating the grounds on which they are made, to Terry Curtis at Hertfordshire County Council, County Hall.
