Politicians have voiced concern over the noise at a major event in Watford.

Senior councillors highlighted calls from residents who expressed concerns over the noise from the "Party by the Pond" on Saturday, September 13.

International DJ and star of The Only Way is Essex, Lauren Pope, headlined the afternoon and evening of classic covers, rock anthems and top club tunes.

The event was part of the Watford Big Events series presented from a huge stage erected earlier in the day but politicians were concerned with the noise throughout the event.

The entertainment kicked off with an opening set by local radio DJs at 3.30pm.

During a discussion in the overview and scrutiny committee, Councillor Jagtar Singh Dhindsa said: "We do not want to be spoil sports, but are we going to measure the amount of complaints because of the noise?

"The thing is, if it is going to on late in the evening, how do we measure the effect? We know it is a good initiative for businesses but I have had a few people mention it to me and I am sure Councillor Martins, who has a few more elderly residents, would be able to say a bit more."

But Councillor Karen Collett, chairman of the overview and scrutiny committee highlighted that the council had received lots of praise for the event.

She said: "You would not believe how many people said we should do more of these things and I am proud to say we were involved in this.

In response, Councillor Rabi Martins said: "I think you were right, the event was a success for a section of the community.

"But the noise level was excessive according to the residents I have had calls from in central."

The funk and soul band Funkify took the stage at 4pm, followed by the popular covers band Scandal and then The Spitfires took the entertainment on into the evening.

Pope was centre stage at 8pm supported by professional dancers from the X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.
