A veterinary practice in Bushey celebrated its 50th anniversary with a reception at Bushey Museum attended by past and present staff and clients.

Over the years the Blythwood Vets has treated more than 100,000 animals, from cats and dogs to the occassional owl and once even a crocodile.

The veterinary surgey in the High Street, was opened in 1964 by Paul Vos, who ran the clinic for more than 30 years. In the early days Mr Vos used to treat horses outside in Falconer Road.

He retired in 1996 and passed the surgery on to Bradley Viner, who had set up Blythwood Vets in Hatch End a few years before.

Mr Viner said: "We were so fortunate to be able to take over this lovely surgery from Paul. We are delighted to say that the practice he started so many years ago has continued to thrive."

Blythwood Vets is an independent family-owned practice, and celebrated its anniversary on Wednesday.

Barry Cameron, from the surgery, said: "Being part of the local community means a lot to us and we look forward to providing excellent care for the pets of Bushey for the next 50 years and beyond."
