Doctors, nurses and staff at Watford General Hospital have become a YouTube sensation with the launch of a sepsis campaign video.

Written and produced by the staff themselves, the video is sung in time to the ABBA classic SOS and encourages staff to remember six simple actions, known as the "Sepsis Six", which can double a patient’s chance of surviving the infection-triggered condition.

The sing-a-long video called ‘Stamp Out Sepsis’ has been watched more than 1,000 times and includes a wide range of staff from across West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust three sites in Watford, Hemel Hempstead and St Albans.

Featured are doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, receptionists, medical secretaries, administrative staff as well as the trust's chief executive, chief nurse and medical director.

As well as being a hit on YouTube, the video has had interest from various sepsis organisations on social media and has raised awareness of the condition in support of Sepsis Awareness Month this September.

Chief nurse Tracey Carter, who appears in the video, said: "I am really proud of our team for coming up with such a unique way of raising awareness of sepsis. The feedback we’ve had about it has been great and we are pleased that so many people have already watched it. It is a great way to raise awareness sepsis and the Sepsis Six."
