A local councillor has raised concerns over the cuts in bus services proposed by Hertfordshire County Council and says it will have a significant effect on elderly residents in Bushey.

In a bid to save at least £700,000 from the annual budget, the council has proposed to withdraw funding from 52 fo the 199 bus route services that run after 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday and the Sunday services.

Councillor Leslie Winters has been asking residents to complain to the county council about the cut backs in the services.

He is particularly concerned about the number 19 bus, which runs through Bushey north and goes into Watford.

Councillor Winters said: "The number 19 bus is used by many residents, especially elderly people, who have no other forms of transport.

"The problem with the proposed reduction in the services is that people who work till late, or even have hospital appointments later on in the day or evening, will find that they have no way back home. So we are going try and fight to keep it going."

It costs the council £5 per journey.

The county council have said that no decision will be made on whether to cut the bus services until after all objections have been received. The closing date for this is October 8.
