A record number of children took part in the Moor Park 10k this weekend.

Organisers revealed that 671 children took part in the junior fun-runs, which were held within the confines of Merchant Taylor’s School playing fields on Sunday afternoon.

Last year, 560 juniors took part in the event but organisers had to set up another race this year because there were too many entries in the initial race.

More than 700 runners also completed the traffic-free 10k race, which takes in Moor Park and Rickmansworth Golf Courses.

Early estimates indicate the event has raised more than £35,000.

The popular fundraising event is held every year at the Sandy Lodge Road school to raise money for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre (LJMC).

The centre, which is based at Mount Vernon Hospital, in Northwood, provides support to patients and families who have been affected by cancer.
