Watford had its own celebration of style with The Big Catwalk this weekend.

Three performances combined fashion and entertainment along a 30-metre catwalk in The Parade on Saturday afternoon.

There was also be a craft workshop for children, where budding designers could decorate their own t-shirts and caps.

The catwalk performances included models showcasing this season’s trends in outfits from Watford’s intu shopping centre, and fashion students from West Herts College featuring their own specially-created outfits made up of pieces bought from charity shops on The Parade.

Entertainment came from Miss High Leg Kick - a performance group which created a shopping-themed comedy spectacle especially for the event.

Members of the Pump House Children and Youth Theatre strutted their stuff in a rock-themed performance.

Elected Mayor Dorothy Thornhill said: "The Big Catwalk is a great celebration of Watford’s brilliant shopping facilities and the creativity of the people that live and study here."

The Big Catwalk is the fifth event in the Big Events series.

Hannah Biggs, a fashion tutor at West Herts College, added: "The Big Catwalk has been the perfect start to the year for our level three fashion students.

"To be given a live brief on their first week back at College is a great experience and the project itself really allows them to be creative in a professional context.

"They’ve been working hard and can’t wait to see their pieces on the catwalk - this community-focused project is something to get them thinking about upcyling and re-using discarded and unwanted clothes for a more positive outcome."
