A man rescued from a Rickmansworth canal has been released from hospital and is "back to normal", according to his mother.

William Mallison, 34, had to be rescued from the Grand Union Canal by two passers-by on Thursday, September 18, but was released from St Mary's Hospital in Paddington on Saturday, September 27.

Paul Orange, 42, climbed into the canal after seeing a man face down in the water.

Along with an unknown school boy, the pair managed to lift the man out of the water and put him in a recovery position.

Mr Mallison was taken to St Mary’s Hospital "as a priority" after paramedics administered first aid at the scene.

Johanna Van Gorkom said: "He was released on Saturday. He was supposed to stay until Monday or Tuesday, but when we got there to visit, they said he could go and he is back to normal.

"It is an enormous relief. I do keep thinking about Paul Orange and the schoolboy who helped him. I wish I could do something for them."
