Runners and organisers have been getting ready for this year's Abbots Langley Tough Ten race on Sunday.

Chris Lloyd, chairman of Three Rivers District Council, went to collect his race number on Thursday from Tough Ten committee member Pat Waterton, and already 480 runners have registered over the 1.5K, 3K, 5K and 10K races.

Kevin Brown, from the Abbots Langley Tough Ten committee, said: "This year we are doing well for numbers and as we have chip timing this year we will need to restrict registration on the day, so that we can load the runners info into the timing system.

"We have a large number of entries from schools for the 1.5K and the 3K and as this means a lot of people will be coming from further afield than Abbots Village we would ask that people consider car sharing for although we have a large free car park in the village, this does fill up quickly.

"We are hoping to hit about 700 runners as a lot of people tend to register in the last week. We are also expecting former England manager Graham Taylor to start the race and to give out medals to every one who finishes.

"We had our annual curry night last Monday at the Abbots Tandoori and raised over £400. The evening was a huge success and thanks to Shah and his staff at the restaurant for excellent food and presentation and first class service."

The race will start at Manor House Grounds, Gallows Hill Lane, Abbots Langley. The 1.5K Fun Run will take place at 9.30am, the 3K and 5K races at 10am and the 10K race at 10.30am

Race entries can still be made at Langley Travel in Abbots Langley High Street up to 4pm on Saturday, October 4.

Registration on the day will finish at 9.30am.
