Following its completion last week, the new Kings Langley pitch played host to its first ever game on Sunday.

The new pitch's first game saw Kings Langley Cobras under 12s play Hitchin Town FC in the first round of the county cup.

The new pitch is the first to be built in the area for years. Measuring 85m by 58m the new pitch will allow Kings Langley to provide an additional two seven a side pitches, as well as one nine a side or full adult sized pitch.

As the football season drew to a close this summer, King Langley FC Youth teams received a cheque from Sport England for the completion of their new pitch.

The Kings Langley fund raising team, with the assitance of Sport Development Officer Gemma Roaske from Dacorum Borough Council decided to put in a a funding application to Sport England as part of the legacy fund programme. Their hard work was rewarded with Sport England awarding £50,000 to Kings Langley to build a new pitch.

Over the next five years it is expected that the pitch will see over 37,000 people playing and watching football on the new pitch, and their is an open invitation to other sports clubs and groups to take advantage of the ground as Kings Langley Football Club has committed to allowing other non footballing groups who need access to good open spaces to use its facilities.

Andy Mackness, chairman of Kings Langley Football Club, said: "This is a great achievement for the club, parents, local supporters and residents who have donated so much over the years. The completion of the pitch will enable us to grow our youth programme even further."

Richard Lewis, Sport England's chair, said: "Thanks to this investment, generations of young people in Kings Langley can look forward to playing sport on great sports pitches."
