Watford Borough Council is planning to bid for funding to refurbish Watford Museum.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill, said they would put the "expertise and experience" gained from the successful £4.5million Heritage Lottery Fund grant for Cassiobury Park this year into the new bid.

The project seeks to transform tired displays and provide better access to the museum for families and disabled visitors.

The plans would also celebrate the iconic building that houses Watford Museum - the Grade II listed Georgian mansion house that was once the home of Benskins Brewery.

The Museum, Lower High Street, opened in 1981 and is home to over 30,000 objects relating to the history of Watford, from Bronze Age to Watford Football Club memorabilia.

Visitor numbers soared over the summer to 3,286 compared to 2,336 visitors for the same period last year, and the museum hosted activities including the Little Gallery Tearooms, evening music and arts events, the NCS charity fundraiser, school visits and the First World War exhibition.
