Hertfordshire Police have joined a national campaign to ensure licenced firearm holders are storing their guns securely.

The campaign, which started this week, aims is to reduce the risk of accidental injury and guns falling into the wrong hands.

Hertfordshire remains one of the safest counties in the UK with little gun crime.

However, police officers will still be making unannounced visits to registered gun owners to check, promote and educate on the security of firearms.

Police and Crime Commissioner, David Lloyd: "People in Hertfordshire who enjoy gun sports or collecting firearms as a hobby or business are responsible in their ownership.

"Owning a gun brings with it an obligation to ensure that it doesn't come into the possession of someone who is not responsible or even dangerous."
