A schoolboy will be racing with a broken leg tomorrow to raise money for a Bushey-based charity, the Michael Green Foundation.

Joel Carlowe, 15, will be taking part in his school's cross country race on crutches.

Joel, who goes to the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boy’s School, broke his leg while playing rugby.

He has chosen to be one of 150 boys in the annual school inter-house competition, to raise awareness of Type 2 diabetes.

He said: "I helped out with an event last month for the charity and I found I got quite emotional about it, and I related to it. So when I broke my leg I thought this would be a good time to do something for them."

Joel's father, Richard, said: "When Joel told me what he intended to do, my first reaction was 'are you mad'. But when he said why he was doing it, I wished him good luck and he has our support."

Richard will be racing with Joel tomorrow.

So far Joel has raised over £200 for the Michael Green charity and donations can be made by clicking here.
