The Great War was the theme at Parkinson’s UK West Herts branch’s  monthly meeting at the Stanborough Centre in Watford.

The meeting included a special performance from Abbot’s Langley Gilbert and Sullivan singers and a number of familiar songs were reprised, on Thursday, October 9.

The programme started on a mood of optimism with some light-hearted songs, reflecting the feeling at the early stages of the war that it would soon be over. The music then became more serious when the audience were reminded of the mounting casualties that were sustained by both sides.

The compere for the evening was Mike Peaker, a former RAF officer. He read several poems from the time including Rupert Brooke’s "The Soldier".

The performance continued with some more light-hearted favourites and the audience sang along.

The branch meets every month at the Stanborough Centre in Watford, and any people with Parkinson’s or their carers from the West Herts area are welcome.
