Watford’s Cassiobury Park is the fourth best open space in the country, according to a national survey.

The West Watford park slipped one place in the People’s Choice Vote, a nationwide competition run by Green Flag Award selectors Keep Britain Tidy.

Around 35,000 votes were cast and Cassiobury Park came in fourth with nearly 2,000, while London’s Victoria Park scooped the top spot.

Elected Mayor Dorothy Thornhill said: "We’re absolutely thrilled to be among the UK’s best loved parks. Cassiobury is a really special part of Watford and I’m delighted that so many people came forward to show their affection for the park by voting. With the major investment planned for Cassiobury Park over the coming months, I’m confident that next year we’ll hit the top spot."

Green Flag Award manager, Paul Todd, said: "It’s fantastic to see so many people voting in this year’s People’s Choice, showing their support and demonstrating how important and loved their local park or green space is. Congratulations to Watford’s Cassiobury Park, and all the staff and volunteers who work so hard in ensuring the park is not only a Green Flag Award winner but is now one of the UK’s favourites for 2014."
