Police are issuing advice to workmen after tools were stolen during a series of van break-ins in Abbots Langley over the weekend.

A power drill and a radio were stolen from a Ford Transit in Hazelwood Lane, a jigsaw, nail gun and hammer drill were also stolen from a Transit in The Fairway and various power tools were stolen from a van in Deans Close.

These were five vans broken into during the weekend in total prompting the Abbots Langley Safer Neighbourhood Team to step up patrols.

Detective Sergeant Andy Wiseman said: "We are thoroughly investigating these incidents and are following a number of lines of enquiry. While these investigations continue, I would urge anyone who carries tools in their vans to consider removing them from their vehicles when they are not in use.

"I appreciate this isn't easy, however some of these victims have had tools which are vitally important to their businesses stolen and have lost out financially as a result.

"If you are unable to remove tools from your vehicle, consider parking in a garage or ensure they are left locked and secure.

"I'd also ask people to be aware that this crime is occurring and to be vigilant. Contact police if you see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles in your area."
