A mother-of-two has ditched teaching English to creating an interactive app for the iPhone.

Samantha Liebenberg, 35, of Aldenham Road, Bushey has designed a Trivial Pursuit-style game for the smartphone after becoming fed up with seeing people playing games like Candy Crush Saga.

Mrs Liebenberg said: "The app came about through believing that there has to be better games out there than things like Candy Crush.

"We're always seeing people, kids, playing on their phones and I thought there has to be something that is more stimulating, which got me thinking."

Mrs Liebenberg initially came up with the concept in January 2013. She then, with help from her husband, began the process of learning about coding and how to create an app from scratch.

She said: "Originally the idea was to have age specific stages but that all costs money, so to start with, I decided to have two categories, adult and a junior, which has been put at age seven. But that doesn't mean a ten-year-old has to play the adult category."

In each round of Thinking, there are ten questions, covering a range of subjects from general knowledge to maths. And it goes up in levels, depending on how many you get right in each round.

Mrs Liebenberg said: "We wanted to create something that was enrinching and rewarding. If you get a question wrong, you can find out what the correct answer is, so you are also learning something too. And as the questions are never repeated, it won't be a case of rembering for next time.

"There is also a party mode, where you can play with up to ten people. The great thing about this is that adults can play against their kids on a genuinely level playing field.

"Admittedly it may cause carnage at Christmas when granddad gets thoroughly thrashed by his seven-year-old grandchild - but it will be carnage with a clear conscience.

"Unlike so many other 'smart' games, Thinking is not mindless and repetitive."

Mrs Liebenberg's friends, family, including her two sons, all helped with coming up with questions for the game.

She added: "One of my friends came up with 160 Star Wars questions in an hour and a half, and one of my sons has done all th superhero questions.

"Of course we would like to expand, bring in videos and maze-style challenges, but we need capital for that.

"For now, we are focusing on making it a viable product, once we have people downloading and using the app, we can collect the data from that and approach investors."

Thinking will be available to download for free from the App Store from October 28.
