A petition for more exits at Watford Junction car park has been launched - after commuters say it takes 40 minutes to get out the station at rush hour.

Andy Birchwood, a station user from St Albans, is spearheading the campaign.

He said: "It can take up to 40 minutes to exit Watford Junction car park.

"The combination of two car parks, taxis turning, and cars dropping off with an extremely narrow underpass causes a bottleneck which is a danger to cars and pedestrians and causes long delays.

"The car park is no longer barrier-controlled so more exits can be opened up with minimal cost. In fact, roads entering into the car park from St Albans road appear to have been blocked.

"We ask Watford Borough Council to reopen these roads to alleviate the pressure around the station."

However, Watford Borough Council say they do not own the carpark.

Mary Kearney, spokeswoman for the council, said: "While we acknowledge the problems associated with accessing the station, Watford Borough Council is not the landowner which means that we can't provide additional accesses to the station car park.

"Instead, it would be better if this petition was directed to Network Rail who own the station car park."

So far 20 people have signed the petition, which can be accessed by clicking here.
