Rail commuters travelling between St Albans and London St Pancras experienced delays after a woman threatened to harm herself on the line this morning.
British Transport Police (BTP) were called to a stretch of the line near Radlett station shortly after 9am.
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue and East of England Ambulance Service also attended the incident.
A spokesperson for BTP said: "The woman was removed from an embankment, detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for assessment."
There were reports of delays of more than an hour earlier today and many of the trains from Radlett station were cancelled as a result.
Passengers are likely to experience delays of about 10 minutes on the Thamslink line this afternoon.
