Angry residents claim a new Bushey Heath development has caused damage to their houses.

Residents of Priory View have complained of their houses shaking, walls cracking and roof tiles falling since the development began six months ago.

Bushey-based developer Heronslea's plans to build to 51 flats and houses on the former Windmill Nursing Home site, in Everett Close, was approved by Hertsmere Council last year, despite strong objections from nearby residents.

One resident, Andrew Lassman said: "Six houses have been damaged by weeks of heavy foundation work. The damage to all properties was small, and my house is the worst affected."

Jason Rishover, CEO of Heronslea said: "We organised a structural engineer to visit these houses and he found that there was no conclusive evidence that our development has had an effect on their homes.

"Some of these houses are 20-years-old and the report does suggest that that cracks may be historic."

Mr Lassman's partner, Marta Roitman, said: "We have had a few meetings with Jason but he has refused to fix the damage. It should be a matter of good will to do so."

An elderly couple, who asked not to be named, said they have spent over a £1000 on repairing damage to their home.

They said: "I just feel disappointed with the council, the planning department have made no effort to consider the effect this has had on us.

"From the start, the whole thing was just whitewashed all the way through despite objections. It was not the fact they were building houses that was the issue, it was the amount they were planning to build.

"And, as a matter of courtesy, we would have liked Heronslea to have warned us of any possible disturbances."

Councillor Paul Morris, who has spoken to the residents about this, said: "Heronslea are looking to work closely with the community in a way that is fair and equitable, and will benefit all parties."
