The Rural District Council built some new houses at Markyate and had them fitted with electric light. The tenants of the other council houses opposite, which were built some years ago, immediately became envious of their neighbours and frankly told the Markyate Parochial Committee so.
The latter immediately interceded with the Rural District Council, who were sympathetic. The outcome is that the tenants of the other houses are now to be provided with a supply of electric light, and will have the privilege of paying for the installation by instalments of 4d a week for 20 years.
