A woman from Bushey who battled with cancer for 12 years took to the catwalk to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Julia Fenton Hodes, 39, lives near Bushey village with her husband Joel, and 12 week old baby, Louis.

In 1999, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, which is a form of cancer that affects the vessels and glands that are part of the immune system.

After failing a series of intensive chemotherapy courses, Julia was given a five per cent chance of survival. Despite the odds, she won her battles against cancer and was given the all clear in 2011.

And on Saturday, October 4, Julia was one of ten Macmillan models who took to the catwalk alongside celebrity supporters, Emilia Fox, Jo Wood and Alex Jones.

The event was hosted by leading British fashion house, Jacques Vert Group. It included a walk around St James's Park, London, followed by a VIP fashion catwalk, led by TV presenter, Natasha Kaplinsky.

The show, called Coatwalk, featured Macmillan professionals and people who have benefited from their support, modelling outfits from British brands.

Jacques Vert raised more than £6,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Julia said: "It was an amazing day; how Jacques Vert portrayed the Macmillan models was touching. It shows how much they understand and care for the whole spectrum of Macmillan's services, people and patients.

"I had a fabulous time and it really was a treat to be pampered by such fun and kind people all day. As we walked to the end of the catwalk the packed room stood to their feet, cheered and applauded, it was such a powerful moment, it was unexpected and really emotional.

"As someone who had a 12-year fight with cancer and was helped by Macmillan Cancer Support, it’s very moving to see such a respected brand as Jacques Vert generously and sincerely support Macmillan."

Leyla Onal, Corporate Partnership Manager at Macmillan, said "The Coatwalk tickets cost £27, that’s enough to fund a Macmillan nurse for one whole hour and will make a real difference for people affected by cancer.

"It’s our aim to make sure no one faces cancer alone but we can’t do this without the support of the amazing people who fundraise for us. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Jacques Vert Group for choosing Macmillan as their charity partner and for organising this event".
