THE fourth Remembrance Charity Dog Walk in memory of three soldiers who fell in action will take place in Cassiobury Park, Watford, at noon on Sunday, November 2.

The walk will commemorate the lives of Captain Tom Sawyer, Corporal Chris Harrison and Private Tom Lake who died in separate incidents while serving in Afghanistan and it is organised each year by the young men’s parents.

Apart from their army careers, the three shared a love of dogs and Captain Sawyer’s parents and Corporal Harrison’s parents now loomk after their sons’ dogs so the fundraising dog walk seemed the obvious idea, explained Tom’s mum, Sue Sawyer.

She said: "Regardless of the weather, which hasn’t always been kind, the previous walks have been very well attended and it is great fun watching a variety of dogs all getting along together and enjoying themselves, not to mention the owners.

"It is a lovely way to spend a couple of hours meeting new people and raising money for a very good cause."

Each year the walk raises money for the Royal British Legion.

Sue continued: "The legion has been so supportive and do such tremendous work with service personnel and their families in a wide variety of ways.

"People tend to think of the Royal British Legion in terms of Remembrance Day and First and Second World War veterans but this is only a small part of the work they do in today’s world."

The walk will set out from The Horns public house near the Town Hall at noon and is set to return about 2.30pm.
