Sensory planters in the park at South Way, Abbots Langley, have been given a spruce-up thanks to a handful of volunteers working with county and district councillor Chris Whately-Smith.

Councillor Whately-Smith and volunteers, young and old, worked together on Sunday afternoon, to dig and plant herbs, flowers and bulbs so the garden in the park can be enjoyed by all who visit.

When the playground park opened in 2012, two sensory garden planters were installed with touch and smell properties for thoese with disabilities. But much to Councillor Whately-Smith's dismay, these had become overgrown and neglected.

He said: "We had a great afternoon clearing the beds of weeds then planting up. One bed is now ornamental, the other mainly herbs. The children got to taste, feel and smell some of the herbs planted and were really keen to help."
