Teachers and students at Kings Langley School are growing increasingly excited as plans to rebuild the school have reached their final stage.

The rebuild, which includes two full size football pitches, three tennis and netball courts, an under-14s football pitch and five cricket strips, is proposed to start in February next year. Building is expected to be finished in July 2016.

Additional parking will also be made with a new drop-off zone to ease congestion on surrounding roads, with enough space for eight coaches in a new turning circle, as well as a "state of the art" sports hall, with the opportunity for pupils to access a covered outdoor amphitheatre.

Gary Lewis, headteacher of Kings Langley Secondary School, said: "What headteacher doesn't want to be part of a process like this - to basically build an entire new school, with brand new facilities, which will be a lot more cost efficient than the school we have now. It's a rare occurence and I'm really looking forward to it.

Kings Langley Secondary School is to be rebuilt after the Education Funding Agency (EFA) announced that the school would be one of eight to be rebuilt.

The design of Kings Langley Secondary School will be replicated across all the other schools included in the rebuild project.

Mr Lewis added: "To help towards this new development, the children at the school have so far raised £13,500 through events such as non-uniform days, cake sales and sponsored walks."

Mr Lewis has been in close contact with parents of the school since the plans were put forward. No teaching areas are to be demolished during the contruction process, and he is certain that students will not be distracted by the building works.

"Statistics have shown that a lot of student's exam results suffer when building work is going on in schools. But after achieving outstanding exam results this summer - our best yet - while work was being carried out in the school, I'm hopeful that the students are ready for any kind of disruption.

"There are no dark clouds in the Horizon."

The building will be carried out by Interserve Kajima. The EFA estimated that the build would cost in the region of £15million.
