Detectives are looking to identify people in connection with a series of burglaries targeting pensioners across the south east of England.

The burglaries, which have been happening since mid-August, are being investigated by Hertfordshire Constabulary's Operation Manhunt, which investigates distraction burglaries where the victim is aged 70 or over.

One of the 35 burglaries being investigated happened in Kings Langley on October 15, between 12.30pm and 2.15pm.

Two men knocked on the door stating they were from the council and needed to check the water pressure as a pipe had burst. They asked for £30 to pay for a new water valve which the victim handed over. After the men left, the victim, 83, discovered that further cash had been stolen from her purse.

The 35 offences, which are predominantly distraction burglaries, have occurred in Herfordshire, Bedfordshire, Essex, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Surrey and London.

It is believed the people responsible for the crimes are operating in a team of three or four and have access to a small or medium sized silver hatchback vehicle.

Police would like to speak to the man pictured in connection with the crimes. Detectives are also releasing a of a second man they would like to identify in connection with the burglaries.
