The winners of the Best Kept Gardens Competition were announced at a presentation evening.

This year the event was held at Kings Langley Cricket Club.

First, second and third prizes were awarded in a number of categories, including best newcomer, best front and back garden, and best High Street display, but the best overall garden was awarded to two winners this year, Pat and Don Hansard and Miss D Holder.

The competition is one of two large annual events run by the Kings Langley Parish Council to award those in the community who take pride in their greenery.

Councillor Gerry Angiolini organises the competition each year and then assists Terry Simmonds of Garden Scene, Chipperfield with judging, along with Councillors Julie Barton and Graham Harrison.

Councillor Angiolini said: "It was a very good evening, and it was nice to hear how wonderful the evening was from people the following morning.

"The standard was very high this year, and it just gets better year upon year. It was great to finish with joint winners for overall best kept garden this year.

"Items included in our auction and raffle were donated by local traders and shops, and we managed to collect £746 from the evening, which will go to  The Hospice of St Francis.
