Christmas came early to a Kings Langley restaurant and bar last week for the music video of Watford band Sid Sideboard and the Chairs.

The band who enjoyed a wave of unexpected local success after forming in 1977, including a Top 75 single, filmed the music video for their new single 'Santa Left Me' at the Kings Lodge at Hunton Bridge last Thursday.

Before this year, Bob Gill (vocals), Spike Webb (drums), Rick Baker (guitar), Jay Bart (lead guitar) and Colin Ayres (bass) had not performed together for thirty years.

But after a positive reception at their reunion gig in July at The Horns in Hempstead Road, and the whole group agreeing to release a song through small record label, Goldstone Records, the band arranged with local film director George Day to develop the band's Dickensian Christmas-themed music video to go with the single.

Drummer Spike Webb said: "It was one of the best team efforts we have ever been involved in. From make-up girls to wardrobe, lighting, camera crew and snow machines, the day took off and flew with hard work and application."

Colin said: "Locals driving past and visiting the restaurant were amazed to see snow in the dusk of the evening on what had been a fine October day. A crowd quickly gathered to witness The Sid's getting their Victorian attire, hair, guitars and everything smothered in snow from head to toe - much to everyone's amusement."

Filming carried on into the night as the band was joined by an array of characters, including choir girls, a penguin, a turkey and Santa Claus.

"With BBC radio play already secured, The Sid's are looking forward to a very Merry Christmas," added Colin.

Their single 'Santa Left Me' will be released on December 1 on itunes and via sidsideboardandthechairs.com.
