West Herts College students who completed their higher and professional qualifications in the summer returned to graduate as the class of 2014.

Almost 200 students donned cap and gown for the ceremony at the Weston Auditorium at the University of Hertfordshire's de Haviland campus on Friday, November 7.

Proceedings were opened by the college’s head of higher level learning, Scott Isaacs, before the college choir took on Ed Sheeran, Eurythmics, Eminem, Lady Gaga and Olly Murs.

College principal Gill Worgan gave the main address, she said: "The qualifications you have achieved open a world of future possibilities, but Graduation Day is a one off.

"It’s a special day for graduates and family and friends. Today we stop the clocks, and celebrate. Congratulations to one and all."

The awards were presented by Dr Andrew Clutterbuck, pro vice-chancellor at the University of Hertfordshire.

Tasnim Choudhury, who graduated with a foundation degree in media production, said: "I’m currently at the University of Hertfordshire doing my top-up year. The fact I already have a standalone qualification behind me makes me feel like I’m a step ahead. I’ve been able to put everything I learnt in the last two years into practice, the facilities were amazing and gave me a taste of what to expect from the industry."

Sean Hughes, who graduated with a foundation degree in graphic design, said: "The best part of my course was my tutor, Julie. We learnt so much from her experience and she really knew how to get the best out of us. I’m about to start a new job as a graphic designer, I couldn’t have done it without the great start I got from my foundation degree."

And Karen Tully, now with a foundation degree in early years, said: "Studying part-time finally made continuing my education accessible. The tutors were so supportive and every module we studied related to my job. I’m so excited that all my hard work has paid off and it’s great to be able to celebrate with everyone today."
