Watford now boosts the UK’s first entirely electric pay-per-use car club.

E-Car Club launched the service in partnership with Watford Borough Council to increase people’s transport options around the town, aiming to give an alternative, more sustainable way to travel that will help save money and reduce emissions.

E-Car Club cars will complement Watford Borough Council’s vehicle fleet with two brand new zero-emission Renault Zoe electric cars, which will be stationed at the council and Avenue car parks adjacent to the Town Hall and opposite the leisure centre.

The cars will be available to local businesses and residents who can drive them across the county, neighbouring counties and within easy reach of a return journey to London.

Anyone 19 or over and has been driving for at least a year can become an E-Car Club member and hire an E-Car for £5.50 (including VAT) an hour or £45 per day which includes insurance, unlimited mileage and 24/7 customer support.

Members can book a vehicle by phone, online or on a smart phone and an E-Car can be reserved for an hour or several days.

Dorothy Thornhill, Elected Mayor of Watford, said: "I would really encourage our residents to join the e-car club - it's a flexible and affordable way to get around, and it supports our green travel aims. Reducing emissions and traffic in the town can only be a good thing."
