Two surgeries in Bushey are set to build a brand new medical centre.

Attenborough Surgery and Manor View Surgery in London Road were granted planning permission by Hertsmere Borough Council last week to build a new centre on the south side of London Road.

The medical centre will be a part two, part single storey building that will house both the practices and a pharmacy along with an underground car park.

Councillor Carey Keates, who acted as an advocate for the centre to be built, said: "This project has been boiling for a very long time.

"The two practices have had an excessive increase in patients by ten per cent over the last six years and they predict an increase of over ten per cent in the next three years."

Councillor Keates also mentioned how the surgeries have found it hard to find a site, and although the site in the proposal is a greenbelt land, it is the only place that can house the new medical centre.

The planning committee voted unanimously for the proposal.

Practice manager, Karen Haines said: "We are delighted that after many years of searching for a suitable site for a new health centre in Bushey we have been granted planning permission to develop on a site, a stone’s throw from the existing premises.

"We hope to build a state of the art modern health centre to accommodate the 21st century NHS.  The patients of both Attenborough Surgery and Manor View Practice can look forward to a building that will not only be used for General Practice, but could offer specialist services as they are commissioned in the local community."

Building work for the new centre is anticipated to start in spring 2015.
