An amateur dramatics company based in Abbots Langley is on the lookout for a talented young man to join the cast of its April 2015 production.

The Abbots Langley Players group is looking for a man in his 20s or 30s to perform in their play, The Herbal Bed by Peter Whelan, which has been chosen by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) to form part of their Open Stages Project 2013-2016.

The Abbots Langley Players is one of 90 selected amateur groups across the country to be supported by the RSC project.

One of the main features of the project will be the growth and use of a working Jacobean herb garden for a set during the production. After show week, the garden will be donated to Abbots Langley to be used as a communal resource by the village.

Colette Holmes, director of the play, said: "When we learned that we had been selected from hundreds of applications nationwide we were immediately thrilled and nervous.

"The idea for this production is to take it beyond the usual scope of our performances and make this a real community project, calling on the talents of lots of the other societies in Abbots Langley. We have had a terrific response so far with individuals and groups pitching in with support, expertise and services."
