A schoolgirl from Rickmansworth has won a Splendid Story competition.
Cate Hale, who attends St Mary’s Primary School, submitted her storyboard entitled, Shadows, to the judging panel comprising of authors, publishers and teachers for the John Lewis Watford's Splendid Story competition.
Cate was also runner-up in the six to eight-year-old category in the national competition, run in conjunction with children's charity Barnardo's.
Cate was awarded £25 worth of books, a certificate and £150 worth of books for her school.
The competition invited children aged between three and eleven to create a storyboard. The activity formed part of John Lewis’s and Barnardo’s 150-year anniversary partnership.
Jenny Morley, executive headteacher at St Marys’s Primary School, said: "We are in the process of updating our school library with some exciting new reading material and Cate's prize will take pride of place, along with her winning entry being displayed on the wall. Well done Cate."
Emma Marchant, judge and manager of sustainable communities at John Lewis, added: "Being involved with this competition was so enjoyable.
"We work with schools regularly, but this project created great engagement from children and parents."
