A pregnant, stray ginger cat who was found on the side of a construction site, is due to give birth on Christmas Day.

The cat, who has been named Holly, was brought into Hertfordshire National Animal Welfare Trust centre in Tylers Ways, Bushey covered in dirt, ticks and fleas.

Holly was found at the north end depot in Ruislip by two men who worked there. They gave the scared cat some food and water, before taking her to the centre.

The following morning, Holly was seen by a vet, who discovered she was expecting. They also said she was one-year-old.

Since then she has settled in well and has been treated for her ticks and fleas.

Jackie De Friez, centre manager said: "The staff at the centre have all taken a shine to this stunning stray and are eagerly awaiting the birth of her new kittens, hopefully giving the staff and Holly the best Christmas gift of all."
