Watford's fairtrade status has been approved for a further two years.

The town was granted the title again by the Fairtrade Foundation, having been Watford Fairtrade Town since 2007.

Watford has to re-apply every two years meeting the five goals set by the foundation to keep the accolade, with an action plan and a list of achievements over the previous fairtrade period.

Goal one requires Watford Borough Council to commit to supporting the use of fairtrade products in the Town Hall and at council meetings, together with promoting the Fairtrade Town Campaign in Fairtrade Fortnight every year.

Goal two requires shops and cafés to offer at least four Fairtrade products for sale to customers.
The third requires workplaces, faith groups, schools and community groups to support the use of Fairtrade products on a regular basis.

Goal four requires support from the media, while five requires a steering group of volunteers to oversee the ongoing campaign and to increase awareness of fairtrade among residents.

Brian Mee, chairman of the Steering Group, said: "We need more workplaces to commit to this and in our action plan for the next two years we hope to increase numbers of supporting workplaces and community groups. We also hope to involve more faith groups in Watford, many of whom are considering committing to using fairtrade products on a regular basis.

"We hope to recruit a number of volunteers who may help with raising awareness of Watford Fairtrade Town on social media."
