Work to resurface the Watford ring road begins in the New Year.
Hertfordshire County Council will plough £500,000 into resurfacing the A411 Exchange Road and Beechen Grove.
The work, which begins on January 5, will take place overnight and will take about two weeks to complete.
Councillor Terry Douris, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: "These works form part of the council’s on-going commitment to maintain and improve our roads for the benefit of all road users.
"We understand that these works are likely to cause a degree of inconvenience to road users. We apologise for this and would ask everyone for their co-operation while the work is in progress."
On the Beechen Grove stretch of the ringroad, adjacent side roads will be closed with a signed diversion in place.
Pedestrian access will not be affected to the side roads but residents have been warned they may face delays gaining access to their homes.
The council's contractor Ringway said the resurfacing is subject to the weather.
Any changes to the proposed start date, duration or working hours will be announced on the information boards on the site and one the council’s website www.hertfordshire.roadworks.org.
