Many of the recycling sites across Dacorum are becoming unsightly and a magnet for fly-tippers.

A minority of people have been leaving their recycling waste on the ground and not in the containers provided, and as a result fly-tippers have been leaving other unwanted rubbish.

To reinforce the council's zero tolerance towards this, high visibility warning signage has recently been erected and those who dump non-recyclable waste at the sites could be prosecuted for fly tipping or issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £75 for littering offences. Environmental enforcement officers will be regularly patrolling the sites and will be taking action against offenders.

Councillor Neil Harden, Portfolio Holder for Residents and Regulatory Services, said: "The council investigates thoroughly all cases of fly-tipping and will deal with offenders accordingly. We owe it to the majority of residents who dispose of their rubbish legitimately to tackle this environmental crime in any way we can."
